When I was a little girl, I was given a small book filled with empty pages for one of my birthdays. Amongst all of the other gifts, it didn’t strike me as anything special, so it got tossed aside and was forgotten about for months. On a day when I was bored and cleaning out my desk, I found the book again, and began to draw in it. Soon enough, the pages were filled with drawings of the same girl wearing different outfits. After I would sketch an outfit, I would write about it on the back of the page.
If you asked me now, I wouldn’t even be able to tell you where the book is. Back then, I didn’t realize that a dream was being born. After that book came countless notebooks, sketchbooks and journals filled with thoughts and doodles alike. Throughout my life, fashion and writing have been the two things that have constantly fueled my desire to be a successful fashion journalist, and one could say that it all started with that little book.
My passion for writing has brought me to the University of Missouri—home to the best journalism school in the country—where I am studying Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communication, along with a minor in Textile and Apparel Management and a minor in Spanish. I write creatively from time to time on my personal blog, ndonn.tumblr.com, but this is the first time I will be writing professionally!
Someday, I aspire to work in public relations on the fashion side of things, or write for a fashion magazine. My career is still figuring itself out, but that is why I am so excited to have been chosen as a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista for the spring 2014 semester!
I would say my style is feminine but simple. This past fall/winter season, my favorite buy has been my pair of black riding boots, but I have also been a huge fan of skirts with tights, oversized sweaters and scarves. I am a firm believer in the idea that no outfit is complete without the right accessories— my favorite being the statement necklace, like the one pictured above. I cannot wait to write for the ACCESSORIES REPORT column, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to combine two things that I have loved my entire life. Here’s to taking the next step towards achieving the goals I dreamed about when I was a little girl!
