STYLE GURU BIO: Nicole Akerman

Hey everyone! My name is Nicole Akerman, and I’m currently a sophomore at the University of Florida. I am so excited for the opportunity to be working with CollegeFashionista this semester! Whether I am walking to grab a cup of coffee in the morning or watching the latest episode of my favorite TV show, I’m always looking at what people are wearing and how I can take this inspiration into my own closet. Although I have always enjoyed fashion, it wasn’t until I began college last year that I realized I wanted to play a part in the industry.

I would define my style as classic, but constantly changing. I like to work with classic silhouettes, but in various different fabrics, such as this faux suede dress. I love the bohemian/relaxed look as it allows me to express myself artistically in different settings, from a casual day on campus to a more professional environment. I tend to gravitate towards dainty accessories, such as this heart pendant necklace coupled with my vegan leather tote bag. I love the fact that the essence of my outfit is rooted in vegan fabrics; I’m able to merge both of my passions into one. Beyond this particular outfit, my go-to pieces consist of my favorite pair of medium wash jeans oxfords, and a classic button-down (you can never really go wrong with one of these). Additionally, I love to express myself through different prints. My love of polka dots isn’t limited to the confines of my bedroom walls, but rather extends well into my closet, through dresses, blouses and even printed pants. I love embracing pops of color and funky patterns, particularly in the spring time.  As the flowers bloom and I navigate the start of a new semester, similarly does my closet.

For me, fashion is  about putting forward your best self, styling clothing that you feel most comfortable and confident in. Here’s to a #RAD semester finding and photographing other like-minded individuals with a love of fashion and a passion for their art!
