I’m Natalie Callahan and I am very excited to announce that I will be writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT every Friday for the UW Madison campus this semester. One thing I love about CollegeFashionista is that both the readers and the Style Gurus have an unparalleled level of passion for fashion. This creates an awesome bond with the readers and I am looking forward to creating a connection with you by providing style advice and fashion inspiration.
To me, fashion is an art form. It’s about going through the creative process and mixing colors, textures and silhouettes to create something new that expresses who you are. I would describe my style as laid-back boho chic, but there are always exceptions and my wardrobe is constantly evolving. In the cold winter months I love pairing slouchy/over-sized cardigans and sweaters with textured or fitted pants and clunky boots. My go-to pants of the moment would have to be the black American Apparel Disco Pants. You can’t go wrong with some shiny black high-waisted leggings! I love colors, but I am a sucker for anything gray. You name it? I’ve got it in gray!
I have had a love for fashion my entire life. As early as the age of four, I remember pulling apart the “matching and coordinating outfits” my mom would buy to create crazy new looks. Since that time I have become skilled in painting and photography which are two art forms that help drive my interest in fashion. I have painted abstract paintings with brilliant acrylic colors on canvas for many years. My natural instinct for mixing custom acrylic colors relates well to styling outfits. More recently, I completed a photography program at NYU Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York, and a fashion styling workshop at FIT in New York City. These programs advanced my skill set and stirred my passion for photographing portraits and fashion photography.
Transitioning the focus I had on painting and photography to fashion styling was very natural because ultimately art is the foundation of fashion. I am determined to become an expert in fashion and the experience of writing for CollegeFashionista will propel my knowledge. I look forward to sharing with you the fun and cutting edge fashions I find over the next few months!
