It has often been said, “Life is too short to wear boring clothes.” I could not agree more with that statement. My name is Natalie Altieri, and I am a freshman at The University of Cincinnati. I am a Fashion Design student within the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, and I am more than thrilled to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista spring 2014.
Growing up in Ohio, I constantly have the duty of dressing for the weather. They say that if you don’t like the weather in Ohio, wait a minute and it is bound to change. Often I’ll be wearing summer shorts and a tasteful pair of sunnies, when a couple minutes later, the rain clouds will roll in and I’ll need to exchange those sunnies for that handy umbrella or a light weight rain coat in order to adapt to the weather. The same goes for the winter. One minute I’ll be wearing my suede booties while running errands, when a short while later I’ll receive a severe weather alert on my phone and need to change into my cozy snow boots. All the more reason for having variety in your closet.
I make it a priority to do my best when adapting to new fashion trends. I find it most interesting when I see variations of pieces from past decades come back into style. Some of my favorites would be the large cozy sweaters and distressed look from the 1990s grunge era, perfect for winter, all the way to the dress styles of the 1950s, perfect for a classy night out.
Variety is the spice of life, and I look forward to bringing you just that when writing my column, LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS this semester. Keep a look out for my upcoming posts as I bring the styles of The University of Cincinnati to you.
