STYLE GURU BIO: Monique Ly

Hello! My name is Monique Ly and I am currently a junior majoring in Management Information Systems at the University of South Florida. No two summers are ever alike and this summer compared to last was a whirlwind. In addition to taking on a multitude of projects it was also my first semester as a Style Guru. The novelty of it all was empowering yet slightly overwhelming, but I couldn’t be more excited to rejoin the CollegeFashionista family for the fall semester!

Living in Florida, I don’t really get to experience that thing you Northerners call “seasons.” Nevertheless, I will declare that my absolute favorite time of the year is autumn. Temperatures become slightly cooler, colors become richer and it’s widely acceptable to wear a darker lip—my go-to. Even more so, fall fashion has always intrigued me, I personally think it’s the most stylish season and also the most welcomed—holla to sweater weather!

My style is influenced by the Mod period and ’90s era, I will take classic pieces and rework them with modern day items for a unique blend of my own personal style. Regardless of the season I love, love, love wearing olive green, black and cranberry colors. I tend to wear my favorite pieces and these colors more during the fall, thus only adding to my love for this season. I still have an undeniable love for rompers and two-pieces, but to easily transition them to the cooler weather I will slip on a cardigan. It’s that one thing I can’t help but purchase in different colors. I’m not joking when I say I have one too many cardigans in innumerable shades of gray; no not 50, but close to it.

I am truly ecstatic that I’m back as a Style Guru, thank you for being apart of my journey so far, it’s only the beginning of a rockin’ semester. Let’s fall into fashion together as I am totally ready to showcase the Fashionsta’s and Fashionisto’s of South Florida. Look out for my posts at the very first of each month! As always, stay RAD!
