STYLE GURU BIO: Monica Villegas

Hi there, Fashionistas! My name is Monica and I am a rising senior at Illinois Wesleyan University double majoring in Business and Psychology with a Marketing concentration. As a first time Style Guru I am very excited to be part of the CollegeFashionista family during my summer internship.

I am originally from Cali, Colombia but attend college in Bloomington, Illinois. Even though Bloomington-Normal is not known for fashion, as are cities like New York City or Los Angeles, it is still easy to find students with a keen sense of fashion that brave the cold winter in very stylish outfits and embrace the spring in lovely colorful ensembles.

My interest in fashion started when I was a young child and attended fashion weeks every year with my mom, who has always made sure I follow the latest fashion trends. It is safe to say I grew up in a household that appreciates a good sense of style, and I have always been encouraged by my family to explore my own tastes in order to develop a unique fashion sense. Ever since I can remember, fashion has played a big role in my life, from dressing up my dolls, to designing outfits I dreamed of wearing and now, giving my friends fashion advice as well as helping style them. I suppose you could also say that my love for Paris and anything French has influenced my style and helped me develop an even higher appreciation of fashion.

As Blair Waldorf once said, “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.” Blair Waldorf was definitely known for her sophisticated style in Gossip Girl, and I couldn’t agree more with her wise words. Fashion has always been my way of expressing myself and letting others know who I am and what I like.

When it comes to my style, I would say it is a combination of sophisticated and polished fashion choices. After all, my favorite fashionistas include Victoria Beckham, Kate Middleton, Olivia Palermo and, of course, Blair Waldorf. If you want to learn more about myself and what I enjoy, feel free to check out my personal blog, where I discuss all about fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle tips.

Anyway, I hope you really enjoy my Wednesday posts over the summer and find some inspiration from the wonderful Fashionistas I’ll come across during this time period.
