STYLE GURU BIO: Molly Green

Hello Fashionista/os! I hope you’re all just as ready as I am for the inevitable sweater weather—some weep into their crop tops as the temperature drops, but some of us, myself included, welcome autumn and winter into our lives with open, cashmere-clad arms. My name is Molly Green and this is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. As an avid lover of earth tones and hot chocolate, I couldn’t be more excited to share the unique New York University style of fall with all of you. I’m a rising sophomore here at NYU in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where instead of following a specific major, I’m designing my own. I am concentrating on Psychology and Creative Writing, but I still have three years to find more subjects to fall in love with. Since my current classes are more science focused, I’m so happy to have CollegeFashionista as a way to express my love for fashion. It has been an important part of my life since I first twirled around my room in a Cinderella gown. Because, after all, in the words of Kate Spade, “Playing dress up begins at age five and never truly ends.”

I grew up going to schools with uniforms or strict dress codes, so it wasn’t until last year when I started NYU that I truly began to find my own style—and I have discovered that it is such a powerful expression of self. Living in one of the largest fashion capitals in the world has been incredible. Inspiration for a new outfit is probably sitting across from me on the subway. There are no rules, especially here. I’ve come to appreciate this because some days I want to wear head to toe black and some days I want to dress like a princess. Spending hours in the library reviewing the parts of the brain can be a bit draining, so there’s nothing quite like a good outfit to brighten my mood. Since fall is right around the corner (but the hot and humid weather begs to differ), you can probably catch me experimenting with color. A vibrant flowy dress is a summer staple, and I’ve paired mine with a delicate necklace and some chunky heeled sandals.

I can’t wait to bring the eclectic style of New York University to you. As the days become shorter, drinks will become hotter, layers will become heavier and sweaters will become softer. The weather changes and so can we—this fall is a chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and further appreciate fashion as an art form, not only a way to impress. So grab a hot chocolate, get cozy and read on—you’ll probably find yourself filling up a shopping cart in due time.
