What does your style say about you? A powerful statement but think about it, does your style reflect who you are as person? Bobbie Thomas says, “Style is the way we speak to the world without words.” Walking down the street people will take notice of you based solely on what you are wearing. To me clothes should always tell a story about an individual. I think of it as if I’m going to be judged by my style then my outer look better match my inside.
To me clothes have always been more than something I had to wear in order to be apart of society. Getting dressed was always a way to play dress up; a way of saying this is who I am and I’m going to express it through my clothing. From a young age I loved textures, patterns and Vogue was my bible. I studied those pages learning designers and focused on every detail on every model.
Where I grew up was pretty small and fashion wasn’t the first item of most people’s priority list. Though I made sure it was first on mine. Wearing polka dot dresses and wedges to track meets and the biggest furriest hats at football games. I never cared about the way people looked at me or the fact that many people thought my obsession with style was crazy. Looking back it’s funny people misunderstood me and my fashion sense because now I’m making a career out of my passion for clothing and style. For those of you who adore fashion but people around you think it’s silly. Stick with it and stay true to you because fashion is fabulous and don’t let anyone tell you different!
When it comes to my personal style, I like to think of myself as a modern 1950s housewife meets a New York socialite. You will almost ways find me in a dress complete with a combination of heels, oversized hat and statement necklace. I absolutely love bold patterns, bright colors and being unique. While being trendy is important I take the approach of wearing what I love hoping to be an inspiration to others.
Life is too short (as cliché as it may sound) to play it safe especially when it comes to fashion! Anyone can rock the latest trend, but staying true to you and making an outfit your own will be a guaranteed way to get second glances for all the right reasons. This fall I’m looking forward to seeking out fashion frontrunners in Philadelphia who have what it takes to speak with their style!
