STYLE GURU BIO: Miriam Yohannes

January 8th, 2016 at 2:20pm

Hey everyone! My name is Miriam Yohannes. I am a student at the Kent State University majoring in fashion merchandising with a double minor in fashion media and marketing. Ever since I was a young girl, I have always had a love for fashion. From streetwear to ball gowns and photography, I loved it all and the way it made me feel. However, being presented with various opportunities, I took on everything I could handle to gain as much experience as possible. I made sure I learned something important I can apply to future experiences. It was not until my junior year of high school that I realized I wanted to make my passion and eye for fashion a career—a career I would love and enjoy.

I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, but having the opportunity to travel to various places, particularly my homeland of Ethiopia, I have been exposed to the creative side of rich designs and textiles. My travels have contributed to my passion for fashion, hoping one day I will inspire others. I discover new ideas and innovations every day that I incorporate toward my journey as a Fashionista in the fashion industry and hopefully will be an advantage toward my success.

One way, I would describe my fashion style as resembling the hip-hop couture style of Balmain. With mod and chic garments presented in every collection, I believe that my style is best represented in that way. I do not usually restrict myself to a certain style because it does change on a weekly basis. I catch myself resorting back to the specific style of Balmain, where it exemplifies the strength, creativity and wisdom in a woman. I go for a more conservative look anytime I dress myself because I believe that the body should be a mystery to the human eye. By accentuating the silhouette and shape of my body, I leave more of an imaginative idea by allowing my clothes to speak for me. Interested in my coping my look? I recommend searching for a pencil dress with a cutout back, stone-centered gold rings and lace-up ankle booties.

I am thrilled that you all are joining me on my fashion exploration with CollegeFashionista, and I cannot wait to share what I have found on my campus with all of you.
