STYLE GURU BIO: Michelle Vazquez

I enjoy sitting down and picking up one of my various fashion magazines—Vogue, W, Harper’s Bazaar—and of course, looking through it. I take my time and read what fashion has to offer for that given month, but most importantly, I look at the campaigns.

As colors and aesthetics are thrown my way by each passing page, I ask myself many questions: Why this model? Why this setting? What did the designer and photographer brainstorm as the ideal campaign(s)? That’s when I realized I like being behind the scenes. I mean, it’d be great to be in Alexander Wang’s gang, but let’s face it, that’s not realistic. I like keeping up with the various fashion weeks, breaking down each look individually of my favorite shows and looking at the overall trends.

Some people have that rush of adrenaline when they participate in their favorite sport or when they get to see their favorite artist perform live. As for me, whenever I stream the likes of Miuccia Prada, Raf Simons or Marc Jacobs at their respected maisons, I can’t help myself but be flushed with excitement!

As important as each show is because of their impact on current and future trends, I plan to see which ones succeeded in a school by the beach—California State University, Long Beach. Who’s rocking vintage, retro glam as seen in Gucci and Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2016? What about the infamous slip dress that dominated every show from Givenchy to Céline? I’m curious to see how college and fashion mix and want to talk about it!

Whether it’s my own minimalistic, dark and neutral-colored wardrobe, or a different one ranging in lively colors and daring trends, I’m all in.
