STYLE GURU BIO: Mervelline Aflata

It’s only right to talk about News Year’s resolutions since it is the first day of the new year but I’ll refrain since there is a 99.99% chance that I will completely forget about them and will start over next year.

On a more positive note, hey everyone! My name is Mervelline Aflata and I’m a senior at DePaul University where I am majoring in marketing with a heavy concentration in business concepts. I’ve been in college for roughly four years and it feels like it’s been four minutes. I’m not quite sure how I made it this far without completely losing my mind but the graduation pictures will definitely be worth it.

I was originally born in the Democratic Republic of Congo then I moved to Champaign, IL which is where I grew up. Being from a small town, concepts like fashion generally aren’t executed in an inspiring way which is how I became so fascinated with fashion. I would always have magazines subscriptions to the top magazines and that’s how I became exposed to fashion on a larger and much more creative scale. I use fashion as a form of self-expression, as a means to connect with others who share my passion and as a hobby.

The transition from a very small city to living in Chicago was a scary one but it was the transition that I needed in order to catapult my education, my fashion sense and an overall sense of who I am as a person. Chicago is home to a variety of notable things such as the pizza, Sear’s Tower and the list goes on, but it is home to an immaculate palette of style, whether it be street style or high fashion. I’m very excited to share my passion on such an amazing platform and put a spotlight on amazing people with amazing fashion on my campus!
