STYLE GURU BIO: Meredith Simmons

Hey, I’m Meredith, I’m a marketing and advertisement/ PR student at Loyola University Chicago and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I’m 19 and heading into my sophomore year of college. A little more about me: I’m in a sorority, Chi Omega, I run my own very small style blog and I spend upwards of 10 hours a day on the internet. My current favorite Netflix show is Stranger Things, but I’m also partial to The Secrets of Great British Castles.

Being a full-time college student who has an honest to god shopping addiction and lives in the city can be difficult, like all the time. I spend most of my time between classes downtown either working on my blog or shopping Michigan Ave. I have learned a lot about my style, though, and how to manage being both a student and a fashion lover at the same time. I realized very quickly that sometimes being comfortable has to be a main priority. I can’t wear the same heels to walk campus as I did to walk the halls of my high school. I don’t think I have yet reached the ultimate style nirvana. My everyday style can range from all black to girly dresses. I’m not ready to limit myself, I’m only 19 and I love exploring every style and finding what parts of it I love the most.

My best piece of fashion advice is always to do what you want to do. If you want to wear that bandana around your neck, do it. If you want to wear leggings and a T-shirt, do it. Whatever you are most comfortable in is what you should be wearing. My goal with fashion and fashion blogging is to inspire more young people to have the bravery to find what they are most comfortable in, and to remind people that you don’t have to have Kardashian money to look and feel good in the clothes that you wear.

My look today is a very characteristic everyday outfit for me. Graphic T-shirt, mini skirt, accessories. My black and white T-shirt is something that I bought in a skate shop in France while studying abroad. I paired it with a black and white upholstery mini skirt from Topshop that I bought on sale! I love the loud animal print, it makes the outfit slightly more dressy and daring. I tossed on a pair of brown Steve Madden heeled sandals bought at Nordstrom, and later swapped them for my white adidas Superstars to head downtown. My bag is a navy blue Dooney & Bourke pebbled leather satchel. My gold watch from Michael Kors, and my gold jewelry is from H&M.

I would wear this outfit to class or even to go downtown shopping. The flirty mini skirt adds a touch of style to the basic T-shirt. With minimal jewelry and different shoes you can dress this outfit up or down in an instant. This is going to be a major go-to look this semester!
