STYLE GURU BIO: Meredith Jones

Hey babes, my name is Meredith Jones, but you can call me Mere. This is my second semester aboard the CollegeFashionista team, and I am really excited to begin my sophomore year at Kent State University with all of the Style Gurus at my side. So, a little bit about me: I am a fashion merchandising major with a minor in marketing, and I am in love with what I am studying.

I believe in truly loving what you do. Growing up I felt surrounded by mentors who did not necessarily “love” their jobs, more so only a hesitant nod and an “oh, yes I like my job,” response. I do not want to wake up in 20 years just “liking” the career path I chose. So here I am, second year into a degree that I am passionate about, and I plan to love it throughout my whole working career. I am beyond excited to see where the future takes me.

In my look below I am wearing a couple items from Free People. I am obsessed with the vibes this brand portrays. You can find a hat like the one I am wearing at Anthroplogie. It is perfect for days when you might have skipped the shower the night before. I always opt for a flowy top, they are so comfy and can easily be dressed up or down. Find one like mine at Urban Outfitters. My go-to shoe this season has been a pair of leather sandals. They are a great versatile addition to any wardrobe, and obviously great for the hot months, much like most of the elements in my look!

Two aspects that pulled me into pursuing a career in the fashion industry were those of evolution and individuality. Fashion is constantly evolving, one day flare jeans are in and then the next they are not. It’s a ruthless cycle that has become to captivating to me. We all have our own personal styles, so in my mind, no one really has the right to judge one another. If you love what you love, and you rock it confidently, nothing and no one can take that away from you. I am going to have to quote Ralph Lauren here because his words somehow manage to sum up my feelings on the matter: “Fashion is about something that comes from within you.”
