Happy summer, Fashionistas/os! I cannot believe this is my fifth semester writing for CollegeFashionista. It’s been an amazing ride, and I’m thrilled to continue my journey this summer. Calvin Harris may have coined the phrase, “When I met you in the summer,” in his current chart-topper, but I’d like to input my personal touch. “When I met you in the summer — and you looked fabulous.” Yes, summer is all about the hot jam that you drive to the beach in, but it’s also about enjoying that same song, while singing with the windows down in an outfit that really makes a splash!
Here’s how I see it: during the year we’re stressed, and that’s an understatement. Between classes, homework and studying, sometimes looking good is the last thing on our minds. During the summer though, that all changes. School is out, and so is the sun! We’ve traded our books for sunglasses and sunblock, and our library days have quickly turned into beach days. With our newly found free time, we can forget about summertime sadness because there’s plenty of time for fun and ample time to get dressed to the nines. Summer flies by, so my best advice to all of you is to take advantage of this time. First step: use these next few months to be your most fashionable self.
Summer is basically just one huge social gathering. All your friends are home from school so you’re bound to run into at least one person anywhere you go. The best way to handle these constant run-ins is to always look your best. I just imagine the possibility that I will run into my crush or ex anywhere I go. Trust me, it works every time, people!
Now let’s get into what’s hot this season (other than the temperature and boys). I’m a big promoter of filling your summer wardrobe with color —especially neon. Warning: neon should be used in moderation. I love this BCBG neon yellow blouse I’m wearing because the color is jaw-dropping, but the style is still classic. Neon shorts are also super cute, whether they’re paired with wedges at night or worn over a bikini at a pool party. I’m also loving all things light wash. Jeans, shorts, vests or however you choose to rock this trend will be perfect for the summer. However, by far my favorite trend to try this summer is pointed-toe heels. Although at first sight I hated them, I’ve realized they are the sexiest pair of shoes that I own. The good news is that they don’t have to be Louboutins because every shoe designer from Steven Madden to Sam Edelman is spitting out hot versions of a pointed-toe nude heel. They work with ripped jeans, skorts, dresses and even a great pair of tailored dress shorts.
Whether you’re listening to Calvin Harris, Iggy Azalea or Lorde while looking beachy, Hamptons-ready or NYC-chic, remember to enjoy your summer! Do what you want, wear what you want and be with the people who make you feel as fabulous as you are.
