It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I began writing for CollegeFashionista! With that said, I’m thrilled to be back for my fourth semester as a Style Guru representing The George Washington University. I’m currently a sophomore in the School of Media and Public Affairs, double majoring in Journalism/Mass Communications and Dance. Between opportunities afforded by CollegeFashionista, GWU and Washington, D.C. itself, I’d say I had a pretty awesome 2013.
With New Years over and 2014 in full swing, it’s the perfect time to get to work on this year’s resolutions. I find certain resolutions making my list year after year; for example, be a better sister/daughter/friend, study harder, stay healthy and one of my favorites, check more items off my bucket list. Now after a year at CollegeFashionista, it only makes sense that fashion has become a bigger part of my life—if that was even humanly possible—and therefore, is only right that fashion would somehow make it onto my list of resolutions. You may be thinking to yourselves, how? Well, in 2014 I will allow my style to evolve, I will allow my closet to grow excessively and I won’t go a day without looking drop-dead fabulous!
In the first weeks of 2014, I have done my best to rock some of my greatest outfits in order to start the year off on the right foot. The outfit I’m wearing here is a perfect example. I’m proud of this creation as it incorporates some things that are new (thanks to Christmas and Hannukah), some things from my closet and some vintage pieces as well. Here’s the breakdown: I’m wearing gray camo-inspired jeans, Steve Madden sneaker wedges, a twist top from TOBI (which I purchased in five different colors), a Balenciaga bag, a vintage fur jacket and a statement necklace from my mom’s closet.
A pair of jeans like these are great because they act as the statement piece in an outfit; therefore, their stylish enough to be paired with very simplistic pieces and a touch of jewelry. I believe one should never object to a little sparkle, especially when it transforms an outfit from flat to 3D. In regards to sneaker wedges, I don’t want to hear any objections; you all need to get out there and buy yourselves a pair. They’re super cute, super comfortable and have the ability to make your legs look 10x better.
Remember new year, new you! So make a list of resolutions, get to work, stay motivated and you’ll be on your way to an outstanding 2014.
