Hello Fashionistas and Fasionistos! For those who don’t know me, my name is Melissa but you are very welcome to call me Mel. This is the third season I’ll be blogging for College Fashionista, representing RMIT University, Melbourne and Australia.
In my last STYLE GURU BIOs, you would have probably seen my fetish with anything coloured or patterned. I call myself a patternista for a reason. Ever since I was pee wee, I was dressed in hot-pink-puffy-prom-dresses and various patterned garments. My mother is probably the reason and influence behind this obsession – she was exactly the same when she was younger! Beyond my mother being an inspiration to the way I dress, credit also goes to my grandparents who were tailors and dressmakers back in their days.
I am currently studying for a bachelor of (fashion) design and I love it. I learn basically everything, which makes my career choices free reign, yet also exceptionally difficult to narrow down. I’m interested in designing, fashion writing and business. I will say I absolutely love my menswear studio. Expect a menswear collection from me in the future!
My outfits are probably a fusion of my influences plus the vast cultures, music artists and designers I admire. My Parisian and Japanese obsessions possibly explains my chic yet very colourful eccentric look, my statement studded vest probably comes from my idolization of Aerosmith (oh yes) and designers like Proenza Schouler are among my favourites.
Besides my fresh faced self, around campus expect to see me rounding up a patterned dress, with a leopard cardigan underneath perhaps, my ever-so favourite statement denim studded vest, with a pair of black boots and a satchel. My STYLE GURU BIO picture captured by Cameron from Cookeimages says it all.
In terms of getting to know me more personally, you would probably would have already read I am a dance veteran, a coffee nut – thanks to the exceptional Melbourne cafes and baristas that produce it—and tea lover…but what else is there to know?
I have recently discovered my new love for avocados and that brunch is my favourite meal of the day. Food aside, my Spotify playlist includes Paramore, Frank Ocean and plenty of guilty pleasure renditions of Glee. Have I also mentioned Jacob Artist is my boyfriend? Oh swoon.
This summer, I will be writing for the WHAT TO WEAR category. Although technically it is fall over here, I’ll be giving you advice on what to wear for those particular occasions appropriate for wintery days! I’m so excited to continue writing for CollegeFashionista. It not only improves my writing and photography skills, but it also allows me to follow up on street trends, inspiring my design collections. Plus it allows me to “style stalk” with fellow RMIT Style Guru, Jess. We love hanging out and we’re both silly, silly girls. Watch out for us, the dynamic duo!
