Hello there! My name is Melanie Wardhana and I like introspective discussions, cheesy snacks (and jokes) and things that sparkle. I am currently a sophomore at the University of California, Davis where I am pursuing a major in Communications with a minor in Textiles and Clothing. I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to be a Style Guru! I’m sure to keep busy the rest of this school year as I am also an intern for Sacramento Fashion Week and write for UC Davis’s TextStyles Blog.
It all began on a fateful trip to JCPenney. Shopping with my mother, we were searching for some new jeans for my older brother when I saw it – the most beautiful dress my six-year-old eyes had ever seen. A gorgeous black velvet bodice with a full black and red plaid silver rhinestone bedazzled skirt and – wait for it – a black hooded cape. I literally began to cry when my mother told me we couldn’t buy it. To soothe my tears, she told me that we could find another dress that was more affordable and more practical for everyday wear. I needed to find something that could be made prettier with different accessories I had in my jewelry box at home. From that moment on, I began noticing fashion as a whole and when I reached high school I started to take the advice my mother gave me as a little girl to heart.
My love for fashion grew more and more with each passing day and this eventually led to my current style, which I like to call “laidback glam”. I tend to be drawn towards basic pieces (like comfy knit sweaters and tall black riding boots) but it’s with accessories that I really like to spice things up. I’m never to be seen without one of my Michael Kors handbags and just the right amount of jewelry to make a boring outfit eye-catching. This passion for accessorizing is why I am so excited to be a Style Guru this term with ACCESSORIES REPORT. I’m given the opportunity to showcase the different styles of various students around my campus and the chance to express what I love about each ensemble.
Catch me on Fridays to see who I’ve found with unique pieces around the UC Davis campus! Don’t forget your accessories!
