STYLE GURU BIO: Melanie Aman

Hi guys! My name is Melanie and I’m a sophomore journalism student at the University of Florida. My close friends would describe me as a 12-year-old boy trapped in an 18-year-old girl’s body. The fact that I can binge watch Spongebob Squarepants and that I actually enjoy using puns is sad proof that they’re probably right. I am a self-professed lover of pizza and all savory and spicy snack foods. I have a soft spot for boys with long hair, indie music and overusing commas. When I’m not taking Buzzfeed quizzes or watching old Friends reruns, you can catch me perusing all my favorite fashion blogs which include Man Repeller and FashionToast.

I’ve lived in Florida for most of my life, but the almost daily 99 percent humidity has been the bane of my existence. In spite of the year-round heat, most shopping trips end with me purchasing some kind of outerwear. With that being said I would describe my style as “outerwear obsessed girl wears weather inappropriate coat to spite the 90 degree temperatures.” Apart from outerwear, my closet closely resembles a blob of varying shades of black, gray and white.  I have a penchant for striped shirts, Asian fashion designers and a good pair of black boots.

This winter I interned with Seventeen Magazine and fell in love with New York City. Much to my parents concern, I’m still not sure what exactly I want to do with my life, but working at a fashion publication doesn’t seem too shabby.

The Gainesville fashion scene is somewhat lacking so before CollegeFashionista, when I saw a well-dressed individual I would probably just stare at them for a bit longer than was socially acceptable. Now, I can awkwardly document the experience and share the hidden gems that exist here. So bring on the crushing humidity and mind-numbing heat because I’m ready to be the next Tommy Ton (with hair) and meet the Fashionista/os in the ‘ville.
