STYLE GURU BIO: Meghan Eberlein

Hey Fashionistas/os! I am a student at SUNY Oneonta, with a major in fashion and textiles, a concentration in fashion merchandising and a minor in communications. I am super excited to be able to be a part of the Style Guru team! This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to show you all some of my personal style along with people I run into along my journeys.

Growing up I never thought of becoming a fashion student. I was adamant in becoming a teacher and following in my parents’ footsteps. I don’t know why it took so long for me to realize my love for the fashion world and that I can make my own path in pursuing all that it has to offer. Now I find myself wanting to teach others about fashion. In preschool, I would argue with my parents on the clothing they would pick for me leading them to eventually let me decide myself. I would wear very eccentric outfits which differs from my current style but was definitely an indication that the fashion world is where I was meant to be. As time went on I took local fashion designing classes and constantly took trips to New York City simply to look at all the trends around me. Although I had worn a uniform up until my senior year of high school, I didn’t let that hold me back when expressing my fashion sense. On the weekends I would pull out my favorite designers, accessories and made sure everyone knew my fashion style. When deciding of colleges I knew now after all those years that I wanted to pursue fashion. I should’ve known at a young age that fashion was a way of life, my way of life.

Once I arrived at SUNY Oneonta I was overwhelmed, yet excited, with the multitude of fashion classes they had to offer. After taking a seven year hiatus from being in the classroom learning about fashion, I was back and ready more than ever! I quickly looked up every possible class that I could partake in, ranging from marketing to computer applications and beyond. This soon led me to become a part of the student fashion society at my school and all that my campus had to offer. I have completed two years as a fashion student and I am so happy I chose to take a path in the fashion world. Knowing that I will never work a day in my life because I will love my career in fashion makes all the hard work worth it.

Some people try to put down the fashion industry yet they fail to realize that they are a part of it. Whether they put on the clothes they wear everyday because of the color or shape, they chose it for a reason. I hope to find those reasons and unveil people’s personalities that helped lead them to their fashion sense. As I adventure the streets of Italy, Ireland, New York City, The Jersey Shore and beyond this summer, I look forward to writing about the styles and trends I encounter. I couldn’t be more excited to see what this summer has in store and I cannot wait to share all of my adventures with my fellow Fashionistas/os!
