Hello Fashionistas/Fashionistos! My name is Megan Alderman-Person and I am beyond excited to be writing for the ALL IN THE DETAILS category for Quinnipiac University. As a rising junior Print journalism major with a Sociology minor, I look forward to combining my love of writing with the trends that I see happening all around me. I have always been interested in how certain trends reemerge in society and adapt in new ways, like high-waisted shorts or crop tops.
As a self-proclaimed modern hippie, I would describe my personal style as laid-back and boho-inspired. I like to think of myself as a bargain hunter, as most of my outfits combine thrift store purchases and current popular style pieces. Practicality is very important to me, but I believe that comfort does not have to be sacrificed for beauty. This is evidenced in one of the popular trends today which is tribal print pants.
I’m also a true believer in the idea that the right accessories and details can make an outfit. Since I’ve always been obsessed with bright colors, I try to incorporate them subtly into my outfits with accessories to avoid a color overload. My current favorite accessories are statement necklaces, which are a colorful and unique addition to any outfit. Overall, the marriage of comfort and style dominates my fashion sense.
With that said, I believe fashion is made up of more than what you put on in the morning. It’s your personal art form that gives you a chance to express yourself every day. As one of my biggest inspirations in life, Andy Warhol, said, “Art is what you can get away with.” I’m excited to observe firsthand and be able to share the way that people express themselves in the looks they “get away with,” and how they transform their look into trends for other Fashionistas/Fashionistos.
