My name is Meagan McGovern and I am so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am a junior studying history and education at the University of San Francisco. Yeah, I know, history and education aren’t exactly fashion related, but I have always loved fashion and styling. I’ve also been known to be a bit of a Facebook/social media addict among my friends, so what better way to combine all of these interests?
Being a San Francisco native, I have been exposed to lots of different styles, cultures and people. One of my favorite things about San Francisco is how different all of the neighborhoods are. From the Haight Ashbury to Union Square down to the Mission, no two neighborhoods are the same. And that goes for people’s taste in clothes too! I think growing up in San Francisco has helped develop my sense of style. With that said, I wouldn’t really know how to define my personal style. I think it’s feminine with a hipster edge (if that’s even a thing). I’m also a huge fan of statement necklaces (as you can see in my picture), scarves and black anything: sandals, sweaters, purses, you name it.
I’ve gone to private school all of my life, which made it difficult to express my personal style at a young age. Once I graduated from high school, I started experimenting with my style a bit more. I’ve always been extremely frugal when it came to clothing, shopping mostly at thrift stores (cue Macklemore) on Haight Street. I love not only the unique and interesting pieces I can find at those stores, but also that no one else really has them. Shopping for unique pieces on a dime? I’m all over that.
I can’t wait to look for Fashionista/os that dare to be edgy and unique. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista this fall. Be sure to check out who I’m featuring each week on FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT for some awesome inspiration.
