STYLE GURU BIO: Maureen Ansel

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Maureen and I’m a junior at Penn State University majoring in public relations and sociology, with a passion for fashion and Netflix! When I was 12, I started reading fashion magazines, such as Seventeen Magazine, and I loved picking up tips and finding out what the newest trends were.

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where most of the people there had similar style, so coming to Penn State was a breath of fresh air. Every day I get to see personal styles from different countries, states and cities, and they’re all beautiful in their own way.

I’m on the water polo team here, but just because I love to be active and sporty doesn’t mean I can’t be fashionable too! My favorite trend right now is the ’90s; I love loose fitting clothes, chokers, white keds/vans, jean skirts, jean jackets, high-waisted jeans, dark lipstick and grungy looks (this MIGHT have something to do with my current obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer…)

I would describe my personal style as versatile. One day I’m all out ’90s, the next I’m wearing a girly shift dress and sandals, and the next I’m wearing comfy athletic (yet still cute) clothes. I would say my go-to colors are black, army green and mulberry; they are always flattering! For the most part I like to keep my style pretty simple; I love wearing a bunch of stud earrings with a few simple accent rings and a necklace with my hair either down or in a bun. I absolutely love heels but at a campus this huge, they are definitely not practical for class, so most days I’m wearing keds or boots.

I am super excited to share with you all the different fashion trends going on here at my school and I hope you enjoy what Penn State has to offer the fashion industry!
