My name is Mary McAteer and I’m thrilled to yet again be a Style Guru for Flagler College. I’m 19-years-old and will be a sophomore at Flagler in the fall. I’m currently a Deaf Education major and am looking forward to getting a head start on my practicum hours when I return to Florida. I’ve returned home for the summer and I look forward to giving you a first hand glance at the style choices of Rhode Island’s finest.
I was born and raised in Rhode Island and was always on the water. Growing up I had the typical preppy Northeastern style, always wearing my Sperry Top-Spiders, riding boots and breaking out those winter clothes. I’m very blessed to have a boat that my family lives on during the weekends throughout the summer months. It always gave me an excuse to rock a bathing suit underneath my Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses.
I was able to branch out of my comfort zone when I came to Florida and experimented with new shades and styles. The Fashionistas at Flagler have given me the courage to experiment with bold colors and styles, such as high-waisted shorts which would usually be out of my comfort zone.
My favorite stores to shop at are J.Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, Etsy and NASTY GALl. I love putting potential outfits together in my head and then find the different pieces when I’m shopping online. My favorite store in Rhode Island is called Bonny & Clyde. I can always find a good pair of Lilly shorts or a cute beach cover up that I can wear during any occasion.
I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista throughout the summer. I look forward to showing you all the different styles showcased in Rhode Island and how they compare with ours at Flagler College.
