STYLE GURU BIO: Marisa Borek

Hi Fashionistas! My name is Marisa, and this is my second semester as a Style Guru! I loved it so much that I just had to return for the spring semester, too. I’m currently studying fashion and textile management and minoring in both business administration and journalism. I added journalism just about a month or two ago after seeing just how much I loved writing articles and sharing them thanks to my experiences with CollegeFashionista! I’m a student at North Carolina State University where the winter is short and not very snowy. Lots of the outfits I’ll be seeing around campus for the next few months won’t be typical winter fashion, much like the one I’m wearing.

I love comfort more than just about anything in an outfit. For a college student, it can be hard to put in the effort every morning to be super stylish, especially for an 8 a.m. class. However, I think it’s much easier to do when you know you’re about to put on a fuzzy sweater, comfortable boots, or a soft flannel shirt like mine. Instead of throwing on the same sweatshirt every day, you can just as easily cuddle up in an oversize sweater or shirt-scarf combo and be way more stylish.

One thing I think every girl should have in her closet is a pair of black ankle booties. They go with almost everything (except the outfits you need beige or brown for) and can be dressed up or down along with the outfit. Pair them with some cuffed skinny jeans for a casual look or add some cute socks and a dress or skirt for a date night or slightly fancier look!

I like wearing gold accessories just because they work with my skin tone, and I recently got a new watch that I’ve been wearing just about every day. I think watches are great accessories, especially if they have interchangeable bands. Adding a bracelet or two can add some extra sparkle and really make an outfit look more put together! Throw in a solid purse that’ll carry all your things and you’re set to go just about anywhere.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what this semester holds for me as a Style Guru and to see what the rest of the Fashionistas around campus are wearing, too!
