Hi! My name is Marcedes Hurd and I am extremely excited to be one your new Style Gurus for this spring semester! I am junior at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou). I am studying Textile and Apparel Management with an emphasis in Merchandising and Marketing and a minor in Business Management. I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri and currently seeing where studying at Mizzou will take me. My dream is to go to a big city and let fashion completely take over my life, whether I write, merchandise or style.
My sense of fashion definitely came from my mom. She has always let me try new trends and wear things that I saw kids my age wearing in magazines. I remember going to the malls every weekend, she’s also the reason I have a bit of a shopping problem. As I got older I began finding my own style and I realized that I didn’t have to follow trends as long as I was being true to myself.
I would describe my style as chic, simple and edgy. Some days I love to wear circle skirts with tanks or cropped shirts and other days I love to wear high-waisted jeans with studded leather jackets. I always stick to black, grey, and white and just add a little pop of color. I love wearing statement pieces like chandelier earrings, bold chunky necklaces, and watches (Michael Kors being my favorite). When I’m not in the mood for my big jewelry, I simply throw on a scarf because they are so easy. My favorite shoes are boots because they come in so many styles from booties to riding boots; I own at least one of every pair.
I am extremely thrilled to be writing for CollegeFashionista for the first time! I will be writing the WHAT TO WEAR section every Thursday this spring and giving you tips each week from what I see on my campus. Though my campus is in the Midwest, the streetwear is amazingly trendy and unique. The students are from so many different parts of the world that so many styles are combined and adapted into an exclusive fashion.
Check out my articles every Thursday on WHAT TO WEAR!
