STYLE GURU BIO: Mallory Metzner

Hey Fashionistas! I’m Mallory Metzner and I am an incoming junior mass communications and fashion merchandising double major at the University of Delaware. I was a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista for the Spring of 2016 and I can’t wait to extend that into the Summer!

I’ve always known that fashion was meant to be a huge part of my life. As a small child, I  hosted doll fashion shows in my playroom, played dress up with my friends, and in middle school I began to hunt down items to recreate the image of my favorite actresses on Disney Channel. In high school I became obsessed with seeking out trendy looks in magazines and making them my own. I would also obsessively plan out which outfit I would wear each day of the week just to make sure I covered every fashion.

I use fashion to express myself and it’s a huge part of my character. This summer marks my fourth year working retail because I just love being surrounded by the latest fashions. Based on my two majors, I definitely want to go into fashion buying and/or fashion journalism. Of course the ultimate dream would be to have my own fashion talk show. At UD, I am involved with the student-run fashion magazine, UDRESS, as a writer and member of the public relations team. I am eager to gain more experience in fashion journalism as I leap into another journey as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.

My love for fashion expands across a diverse range of styles. Somedays I want to put on my cargo jacket and listen to indie music, while other days I feel like frolicking on the beach in a sundress. The weather, my planned activities for the day and even my mood can affect which style I pull off the hanger to wear. My new favorite items for the summer are sundresses and gladiator sandals. I recently discovered a southern boutique while in a mall in Texas called, Altar’d State. From there I selected a white eyelet dress with a sand dollar design. The dress has a turquoise underlayer, which I balance out with turquoise gladiator sandals. Flip flops can rub between my toes or slow down my step, which is why I’ve found gladiators to be a more practical alternative. They also tend to complete most looks better by dressing them up. I’m also obsessed with finishing my looks with dangly earrings and bold necklaces. I live at the beach and I always wear my starfish earrings to remind me of home while I’m away. However, I’m not your local beach bum because I give myself enough time in the morning to get ready and decide which outfit I need to wear to achieve the role I wish to portray on any given day.

As I step into another semester as a Style Guru, I can’t wait to see what new trends I will find around campuses and in Spain when I study abroad this July.
