STYLE GURU BIO: Mallory McCain

Hello everyone! My name is Mallory McCain, and I am a current sophomore at the University of Kentucky. I recently made the switch to fashion, and I am happy to join the CollegeFashionista team. My official major is merchandising, apparel and textiles, but my ultimate goal is to become involved with fashion forecasting (while living in New York City of course). I enjoy drinking coffee, wearing lipstick, reading fashion blogs and hanging out with my wonderful friends. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that the right pair of shoes can make or break any outfit.

I love fashion because it is a silent expression that radiates someone’s personality to others. It gives people an idea of who you are and showcases your creativity. I enjoy seeing how people style different trends, and I am always looking for new inspiration from others. I think the most fashion forward people are the ones who are not afraid to take risks with their style and do not fear what others may think of their choice. If you’re ever contemplating on trying a new look my advice is to go for it–you may surprise yourself by finding a new go-to outfit!

I have always had a specific taste for what I like when it comes to clothes. Growing up my mom never knew what to buy me because I didn’t usually like what she would pick out (this still remain true today–sorry mom). I like to pair things that don’t typically go together, and I am not the kind of person to wear color. My entire wardrobe consists of neutral shades and many black shoes. With my transition into the fashion industry, I started my own fashion blog where I show people that outfits without color are not bland or boring. Colorless looks are all about pairing the unique pieces that complement the shade you are wearing.

For this outfit, I decided to pair my favorite shoes for fall with a rayon gray dress. There’s something about over-the-knee boots and cutout sleeves that give an outfit an extra edge while still looking chic. I love to wear trendy sunglasses, and I am a big fan of the cat eye look. These glasses will definitely get you noticed walking through campus. I like to top off any outfit with simple jewelry and a matching purse.

I am so excited to start sharing campus fashion finds with you all and I hope to inspire you to try something new!
