Hello there Fashionistas/os! My name is Makaylee Stutzman, and I am a senior with a year and a half left at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am double majoring in Fashion Design and Advertising/Public Relations. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am beyond ecstatic for this new adventure! Though fashion is a big part of my life and passion, I have many other interests as well! When I’m not looking for trends, designing clothes or reading fashion blogs, you can find me on the slopes snowboarding in Colorado, trying out new vegetarian recipes or reading a good book with a good cup of coffee in hand.
Growing up, I was raised by my father and grandparents and was always kind of a tomboy. When I was eight, my grandma taught me how to sew, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I loved that it let me be creative, and I could make my own items instead of going out and buying what everyone else was getting. This combined with my first retail job when I entered college, made me realize how much I loved putting together outfits and helping others develop their own personal style. That’s when I changed my major to fashion design and now someday look forward to having a job in the fashion world, whether it be writing, styling or designing!
My style is very eclectic because to me fashion is just like acting. You get dressed up for whom ever you feel like being that day. You could be an edgy rocker one day and be a bohemian gypsy the next. Fashion is an art that allows you to take everyday items and turn them into something beautiful that lets your personality shine through.
