Hello all! My name is Maggie Tran and I am currently a junior at Binghamton University. Now, you may wonder, Maggie, where is your picture taken? It doesn’t look like Binghamton. Are you even in New York? Do you even live in New York? Well lovelies, I hail from Chicago, Illinois, undoubtedly the Windy City, and I am an out-of-state student. Currently a pre-law major, between all the reading, studying, getting sick and cramming, I dabble in fashion.
When I was little and there was a lavish occasion to dress up for (not that my everyday outfit of fabulous overalls and a Mickey Mouse sweater was hideous), I would always want to wear the pretty dress. You know, the pretty pink one that made you look like a princess and not like old tapestry. I would argue and cry and throw tantrums with my mom until lo and behold, Christmas or Chinese New Year’s pictures would end up with me flashing a victory smile with swollen red eyes. Mind you, I thought I was a stylish little three year old.
Seeing as my love for fashion has rooted back to the wonder years, I find inspiration from a plethora of things. I’m not one to look to celebrities for inspiration (aside from Alexa Chung; girl, you fabulous) but instead dictate my style on textures, cut and fit—basically whatever I feel I look most presentable in. Street style is my favorite. I love seeing how people look stepping out of their house and the story behind what they threw on. Mostly, I love seeing those who just literally throw stuff on.
As of late, I cannot get enough of clean-cut oxford button-downs with a pair of skinny jeans and ankle boots. Then again, I don’t remember a time where I didn’t dig skinny jeans and ankle boots. Think of it this way, I am your Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer, except girl version. I go for classic looks moreso than trendy and always find myself oogling over designers like Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang and Haider Ackermann.
Lastly, I would like to say that I’m excited to be joining the CollegeFashionista team for spring 2013 at Binghamton University. As a new Style Guru, I hope to bring a fresh slate of well-dressed and eclectic bunch of students amidst the late night study sessions for your reading, procrastinating and viewing pleasures.
