STYLE GURU BIO: Madeline Rafferty

Hello there! My name is Madeline Rafferty and I am a freshman graphic design major at Western Kentucky University. I am so thrilled to begin my second semester at WKU as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!  Last semester was incredible and I really got a taste of the opportunities that this internship can bring.

This internship has been a dream of mine since I was a sophomore in high school and so far it has definitely met my expectations and more.  I have met some brilliant Fashionista/os already.  Having a mutual passion for style with fellow students at WKU has comforted me and also inspired me.  My favorite trend at the moment would have to be capes.  This mod alternative to a coat is so fun and mysterious; it also keeps your sleeves from bunching up in the sleeves of a coat.  Speaking of mod style—Adele.  She has been a muse of mine since her debut with 19, and with her recent reappearance, she has been fearless with her style.

Adele’s killer green midi dress that she wore for her BBC special blew me away and reassured me that my recent obsession with the color green is a-okay!  I am all about high necklines so when winter rolls around I hunt for turtlenecks.  This olive green turtleneck sweater as been a staple for me so far.  It is long enough to where with leggings and booties, and thin enough to wear underneath a pinafore dress. Turtlenecks are also a perfect canvas for a statement necklace or a vintage broach. Their versatility is yet another reason for my adoration of them!

With cooler weather comes the tricky decision each day as to what kind of shoes to should wear.  I absolutely love a good leather ankle boot, but I also love the look of pointed toe shoe with a small heel.  Who says you can’t show a little bit of ankle in the winter, after all it hardly feels like winter in Kentucky right now!

I can’t wait to share with you stories and style advice from Fashionista/os across my campus. Here’s to a new year of new styles and trends!
