STYLE GURU BIO: Lindsay Yates

Hey, everyone!

My name is Lindsay and I am a sophomore at Columbia College Chicago. This is my third semester with CollegeFashionista, and I am super excited to return with more articles about my favorite subject.

As a college student living in Chicago, I find a majority of my style inspiration from the streets of the city. There is a unique mix of tourists and “places to go, people to see” kind of people that intertwine every day. Seeing and capturing a variety of looks is what allows me to be creative in my own style. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but what about the clothes someone wears? If fashion is a true representation of who you are, then what you wear is a another language to the art of expression. I grew up in San Diego, California, where my style was on the opposite spectrum than it is today. Moving to such a different city has allowed me to grow as a person and evolve my style into what I truly believe myself to be. When you wear something you love, no words have to be spoken as to who you are as a person. That’s what I like about fashion.

For this outfit, I decided to go for something minimal with a bit of a twist. This black turtleneck, basic blue skinny jeans and black belt is a go-to outfit for me. These three pieces stand out as a sleek look on its own, perfect for an everyday look. To add some spice, I wore my leopard printed booties, which are best friends with a simple look like this. I added a gold chain necklace for more sparkle and added contrast to the silver on my belt.
Stay tuned for articles showcasing my favorite looks on the streets of Chicago.
