STYLE GURU BIO: Lex Kelly

Don’t worry Fashionista/os, I’m not going anywhere. I’m back for my third semester as a Style Guru and cannot wait to bring you even more RAD street style. I’ll be on the lookout  for the most fashionable students at CMU’s campus this semester.

If you are new here, let me fill you in. I’m a fashion/journalism major aspiring to be a fashion editor in New York City. I also have a love for photography and film. This comes in handy when I’m filming lookbooks and creating blog content. I currently have a blog, That Chic Lex, which evolves with my taste.

My style is constantly changing. As I’ve mentioned previously, my style depends on my mood, day and occasion, but I dress quite minimally most of the time. I love classic pieces that look clean and effortless. That’s why I chose this look to feature. I think it shows that basic pieces can look just as good, if not better, than bold, trendy options.

Since Michigan’s weather is barely tolerable with a coat on, I choose pieces that would keep me on the warmer side. Sweaters are a girl’s best friend, especially ones with turtlenecks. Sweaters are worth investing in. I recommend J.Crew, Ann Taylor or Banana Republic. These are pieces you’ll have for a long time. I paired that with dark wash skinny jeans and Hunter boots, which are also timeless pieces. Choosing the coat was the hardest option. I love the color of this tan KORS Michael Kors coat. It looks great with the plaid scarf and does well in keeping me warm.

Winter can be a hard season to dress for, so I’ll be here every step of the way to give you some cold weather inspiration.
