STYLE GURU BIO: Layne Miller

Hello, I’m Layne (the E’s long, it’s a weird name, I know) and I like taking pictures. Last year, I began studying fine art photography at Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Ever since I’ve been working tirelessly to acclimate myself with Philadelphia and promote my status as wannabe city girl to real city girl. I think this place is wonderful, and I am so grateful to be living in such an inspiring atmosphere. I am even more grateful for the vast selection of beautiful settings I now have access to 24/7.

I love photography, but more generally, I love art. I love self-expression and seeing everyone’s method of going about it: painting, drawing, photography, makeup, clothes, etc. Whatever gets your creative juices flowing! To some, clothes are a basic need and nothing more, and fashion is a frivolous excuse to justify spending an entire paycheck on a pair of jeans. To each their own, but getting ready and creating outfits in the morning is my meditation. It is sometimes the highlight of my entire day, and thinking about what color eyeshadow I’m going to use in the morning is what helps lull me to sleep.

This particular outfit is one that I shamelessly wear all the time. It’s a cross between contemporary grunge and just repurposing pieces I’ve had since I was a sophomore in high school. I love this Steve Madden bag that I got at Marshalls for a steal and chokers of all sorts, so here’s a prime example of how I’ve found a way to incorporate them in every one of my looks.

For as long as I remember I’ve been obsessed with the same things, fashion, art and communication. That’s why I’m so excited to have been given the opportunity to combine all those things together by interning with CollegeFashionista this semester. I’m new to this whole blogging thing, so please bare with me as I train myself to be a writer. However, I have an undying urge to photograph people, and there’s no short supply of Fashionistas/os out there worthy of a Vogue cover, so I have a feeling I won’t be such a bad Style Guru after all.
