My name is Lauren Saar and I am a sophomore this year at Georgetown University. I am pursuing an English degree with a double minor in Studio Art and Computer Science. I grew up in a small town in Michigan and was fortunate enough to move to Washington, D.C. to attend Georgetown University and play volleyball. I have always had a passion for unique and personal style, and now that I am in a larger city, it is exciting to see examples of this everyday.
My personal style is greatly influenced by ’90s fashion. I love the juxtaposition between hard and soft, whether it is a babydoll dress and a pair of Dr. Martens or a Peter Pan collar under a leather jacket. It is fun to look for vintage finds in thrift stores and to mix and match those with amazing and classic investment pieces. While I am undoubtedly drawn to the ’90s, I find inspiration everywhere. It could come from magazines, films, blogs and the people I see day to day.
When I’m not scanning Nylon magazine or watching iconic fashion films like Annie Hall or Clueless, I love experimenting with fashion photography and portraiture. Whenever my friends will allow, I pull out my DSLR or 35mm camera and take them for a photo shoot adventure. I am always looking for new people to photograph and projects to take on.
Overall, I am so excited for the opportunity to be a Style Guru this spring semester. Writing the ACCESSORIES REPORT, I will be spotting the scarves, shoes, jewelry and bags that make a Fashionista’s style truly their own. Even with a simple outfit, it is the accessories that make it unique and personal. I cannot wait to represent Georgetown University for CollegeFashionista and showcase some very stylish students.
