Hi guys! I’m Lauren Daccache, a rising senior at Wake Forest University, and I am unbelievably excited to be interning for CollegeFashionista this summer. I am a Communications major (with a Media Studies concentration), and while I absolutely love being a student at Wake, I will be posting up in the “Big Apple” this summer and could not be more thrilled! I’m going to be taking some fashion and entertainment journalism classes at NYU and interning for Natalie Joos, one of my favorite fashion bloggers and one of New York’s most amazing casting directors. I cannot wait to incorporate all that I learn this summer into my everyday style, and plan to share every fun detail of my adventures with all of you!
I can’t exactly pinpoint when my fascination with the fashion world began. It must have been somewhere in between my tomboy days (where I took “borrow from the boys” a bit too literally) and my hippie-chic phase early on in high school. (Note that I don’t refer to this phase as “boho-chic”; let’s just say I was a little less Mary-Kate and a lot more hemp-loving Woodstock and leave it at that.) All I know for certain is that my adventures traveling and living abroad (I lived in Beirut, Lebanon for about five years) have had a heavy impact both on the way that I look at fashion on a global scale, and on my own personal style.
While I am always a fan of the classic fashion staples (recently, I’ve been entertaining a mild obsession with the simple, white button-down oxford), I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love to mix it up a bit. That’s how I like to think of my overall style; I take an outfit and add something to it that makes it impossible to corner me into just one trend. I don’t want to simply be classified as “edgy” or “girly” or “boho.” Instead, I prefer to mix these together and create something new. Take the leather jacket for example. I paired it with a vintage lace Ralph Lauren midi-skirt, opting to create some contrast in my outfit between the edgy and the girly.
This summer is sure to be filled with tons of stylish adventures, and I’m so excited to have the chance to share my fashion sightings and musings with all of you! Keep an eye out for my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK every Monday!
