STYLE GURU BIO: Lauren Combs

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Lauren and I’m beyond excited to begin my semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I’m an apparel merchandising major at Eastern Michigan University with a minor in journalism. I’m currently chasing my dream of becoming a corporate visual merchandiser after graduating this year.

Growing up in the city of Detroit and being surrounded by artists helped inspire my love for fashion. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved how you could make a statement and express yourself by style. As I’ve gotten older, I found the saying, “you are what you wear” to be true.

I describe myself as a live-life enthusiast and I love to take on adventures . If I’m not in class or working at Madewell, my weekends usually consist of reading fashion blogs and watching movies (my addiction).

I like to describe my style as urban minimalist with a taste of tomboy. I like to mix the simple, neutral-tone look with relaxed and slightly bold pieces. I like to keep it effortless!

The hooded jacket from Madewell that I’m wearing above is one of my favorites! The weather in Michigan is so wishy-washy around this time of year, but anorak jackets like this one can be worn throughout fall/winter and spring. The skinny jeans also and cross-body bag also come from my lovely workplace, Madewell, which are both absolutely comfortable and versatile in color. I’m in love with them because they can be worn all year round and can be paired with almost any outfit. My sneakers (which consist of my favorite colors) come from Nike and are pretty comfy and stylish!

As Gianni Versace said, “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.”
