STYLE GURU BIO: LaRisa Anderson

Hello everyone! My name is LaRisa Anderson and I am a sophomore at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Gender and Women’s Studies. I am originally from a lesser-known California city in the Bay area called Hayward. We are known as being the heart of the Bay and we are proud of it!

My first style is actually a perfect representation of myself: cheap, chic and comfortable. I chose to do something a bit simpler for my flight from San Francisco Airport to John F. Kennedy Airport. Whenever I am traveling on an airplane, I find that certain areas are hot and others are freezing. In order for this outfit to make sense, I’m going to break it down in the same process I did when I chose it.

I started off knowing I was going to wear a basic cotton T-shirt. I chose black because it is simple, can match with anything and if I find myself sweating from carrying all of my luggage, there will not be very obvious stains underneath my arms. Then I paired the shirt with very comfortable eight dollar jeans from Forever 21. I know what you’re thinking: “Why jeans? Aren’t Leggings more comfortable?” I decided to wear jeans because I had a red eye flight, which meant that it was going to be extra cold in the airport. Also, these jeans have the perfect level of comfort that allows me mobility without feeling like my thighs are sticking together, which is pertinent when you have a middle seat on the plane. Next I settled on my favorite abstract silk jacket with a never-ending zipper and two small pockets. Fortunately I was able to snag this great H&M find at my local thrift store for only 12 dollars. I also found my most important object, my backpack, at my local thrift store for only 20 dollars! The backpack is essential for a traveling girl because you need to be able to throw things in your bag and keep it moving. The contents of my backpack included loads of gum, my camera and an adult coloring book (don’t judge me). Lastly, I ended my outfit with my awesome cool gray Nike Roshe One sneakers from Famous Footwear and my five dollar rose gold boyfriend watch from Amazon. The sneakers are essential for going through security with the added comfort of knowing no one is staring at your feet.

I hope my thought process for making this outfit work for me, was helpful to you and your travels! If you would like to get my watch, you can find it here, my shoes are available here in the men’s sizes and a similar backpack is here. So the next time you are going on an airplane and don’t know what to wear, just refer to this post. If you enjoyed my blog please follow me and I promise to not disappoint. Be blessed!
