STYLE GURU BIO: LaQuasha Combs

Hello Fashionistas/os. My name is LaQuasha Combs and I am entering my senior year at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. After one strategic major change and a newfound passion later, I found myself in the school of Journalism and Telecommunication, majoring in Integrated Strategic Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in Political Science. This fall I am thrilled to a part of the CollegeFashionista team.

“Passion for fashion” may be a cliché term, but it definitely pertains to me. Since a young age, shopping has always been a bonding experience for my mom and me. However, a love for clothes is extremely different from a love for fashion. When my love for clothes transitioned to a love for fashion, I’m unsure, but I feel that I have been browsing fashion magazines without end and constantly checking Style.com for the lasted runway shows since dial up was a thing. However, I noticed I had a full-blown obsession when I came across my first fashion blog. Fashion blogs really introduced me to what personal style was and how getting dressed not only prepares you for the day ahead but also can be used as a creative outlet. The rest is history.

Although I have loved fashion since a young age and my willingness to give just about every trend a try (except bucket hats) has remained the same, I think its safe to say that my personal style is constantly evolving and reflects my ever-changing moods and interests at the given moment. However, I’m a sucker for a good fit, classic pieces with unexpected twist and neutral colors. Don’t think I’m boring though; edgy details, feminine touches and androgynous feels often steal my heart (and money).

A new school year is about to start and mark what feels like a definite end to the summer. So what better way to symbolize this with the brightest pieces in my wardrobe? This crop top and culottes pair so easily with on another. Culottes may be a bit intimidating to wear and often makes me feel like I am being swallowed whole. To tone them down, try a denim version and pair it with a fitted crop or for a simpler setting try a matching set.

This semester, I am eager to turn my self-proclaimed title as style enthusiasts into Style Guru. Be sure to follow to stay up to date on my articles and the fashionable people I encounter on campus. Thanks so much for allowing me to turn my borderline creepy personal style stalking into what is now professional and acceptable. See you soon Fashionistas/os.
