STYLE GURU BIO: Kylie Smith

Hello all you Fashionistas/os! I am a senior at the University of South Carolina studying marketing, management and the art of staying trendy while being original. I believe a smile is your best accessory and that you can never go wrong with a little black dress or cowgirl boots.

Coming to a gigantic SEC school from two states away, I have friends from all different backgrounds and lifestyles. This means I’ve been influenced by trends from all over the nation. For example, my newfound love for wine-red lipstick and Converse stems from my Seattle roommate’s trademark Bordeaux smile and edgy footwear. I still wouldn’t appreciate an oversized T-shirt or know how to curl (and tease) hair if it weren’t for the adorable Southern Belles of the friend group. Without all of these wonderful influences, my personality and closet wouldn’t be as wide-ranging as it is today.

Even though my habits, beliefs and individuality have changed from year to year, since coming to college I am always able to adjust my style to fit these changes. Between a sorority and business fraternity, I need to be able to adapt my style from preppy to professional in a bless-your-heartbeat.  Therefore, I choose apparel that can be worn on a casual outing with the girls or converted to business attire with the simple addition of a blazer.

Whether your taste is centered on western boots and leather fringe, or pearls and pencil skirts, always remember that taste is having the courage of your own convictions. Wear those convictions proudly ladies and gentlemen!
