My name is Kristen Bousquet, and this is my first semester entertaining your eyes through CollegeFashionista. I am an Advertising and Marketing Communications student at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Born and raised in the small town of Ludlow, Massachusetts, I’ve always tried my best to create opportunities for myself, so moving to the Big Apple for college seemed like a no-brainer.
Attending FIT is anything but normal. When you’re moving from a small town where you are surrounded by woods, just being on campus at FIT is really an experience in itself. On an average day, you can see people in the largest variety of outfits, from the over-the-top ensembles to the super trendy and swank get-ups. The school really makes you appreciate how unique people really are because, honestly, no two people look the same. FIT in located smack in the middle of Chelsea — one of the most beautiful neighborhoods on the island of Manhattan. This neighborhood, and the entire city for that matter, is filled with some of the most inspiring fashions in the entire world. Best part of being in the city? It never gets old. There’s always something new to visit or someone new to meet.
Being an Advertising and Marketing Communications major, I learn so much about the fashion industry from marketing and public relations to journalism and graphic design. I love how broad my major is and how it gives me room to figure out where I really want to be in the industry. I just finished up an internship with StyleCaster in the Sales Department this spring semester, and it was such a valuable experience. After graduating FIT, you’ll hopefully find my name on the masthead of some impressive fashion magazine like Seventeen or Teen Vogue.
Since I come from such a small town, it seemed like the best idea for me to start something that could help me connect with the fashion world from the depths of my laptop. As I opened my MacBook and started in the wonderful world of blogging, it seemed incredibly natural to me. I started Stylish in Sequins in 2009, and still blog regularly. From outfit posts to fashion news to giveaways, there’s always something new to inform the world about through my eyes (and obviously a new outfit to show off!). Since blogging was such a creative thing and taking photographs for Stylish in Sequins was a job in itself, I decided to invest in a digital SLR camera, and that’s where my photography business started. I run Bousquet Photography whenever I’m home from the city, and it’s given me another way to visually express myself aside from clothing.
From one Fashionista to another (or Fashionisto!), I’m excited to share some of the fascinating accessories that I find on the streets of FIT through the Friday segment, the ACCESSORIES REPORT. I cannot wait to share these unique accessory finds with you, and I hope they inspire you as much as they did me.
