Hello! My name is Klaire Sawicki and I am thrilled to start my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I am a junior at Ole Miss majoring in Hospitality Management, and after spending my previous semester studying in Florence, Italy, I’m glad to be back in small town Oxford, Mississippi!
Since I sadly lack any artistic ability, fashion has served as my creative outlet for as long as I can remember. For me, fashion is neither superficial nor materialistic. It’s not about spending the most money or owning a certain designer. For me, fashion is a form of creativity and fun and I think it’s one of the best ways to express your personality. Oh, and the best part? It can be done on any kind of budget.
Living in Europe this past semester has really opened my eyes to different cultures and the styles that come along with them. It has also made me more confident in trying new things when it comes to my own style. I prefer to put together new, unique looks rather than conforming to the “fashion rules.” Style should conform to you, not the other way around.
Although I do follow trends loosely, most of my inspiration comes from Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, random strangers and the Anthropologie catalog. My personal style is an eclectic mix of flowy skirts, skinny jeans, mixed prints, lots of scarves, ballet flats and my trusty leggings. I like anything quirky, cute and ladylike. And another thing: twelve years at a private school has permanently ingrained preppy and conservative into my brain. I don’t think it will ever go away.
Like most southern universities, Ole Miss has the unspoken uniform of Nike shorts and over-sized t-shirts. However, I’m eager to scope out those students who choose to break the dress code and feature them in my weekly “What To Wear” articles – coming to you every Thursday!
