Hi Everyone! My name is Kim Dang and I am a Junior at the University of Florida studying English Literature. I love to write and analyze literature just as much as I love to do so with fashion. This is my first time working with CollegeFashionista and I am thrilled to contribute to this amazing community over the summer. I was so speechless when I found out that I had the opportunity to become a Style Guru because CollegeFashionista is something that I have always dreamed about being a part of ever since I read about it in a magazine a long time ago.
I was born in Orlando and lived there my whole life until I came to Gainesville for college. The move was definitely a change of scenery and I have to admit it took a toll on my inspiration. Orlando is a big city full of diverse culture and tourists who travel from around the world to visit the many attractions that Orlando has to offer. Thus, my inspiration for fashion came from everything and everyone that I encountered. My style has been through many stages, but growing up I found that wearing what I felt most comfortable and confident in is the best way to go. I love how fashion can express who you are and what you feel. I can say that a big part of where my fashion inspiration stems from is my mood. If I’m feeling happy I would wear something bright and colorful, like a floral dress from Forever 21 or what I currently love for summer, neon accents. However, if I’m feeling a little down I would wear a gray sweater or black combat boots from Steve Madden, which go with absolutely anything.
My college journey has been a little difficult trying to find out what I love and what I want to pursue as a career in the future. I figured that English is so broad that it could really set me up for the career that I would like to pursue. Ever since middle school, I have always wanted to be a lawyer, but finding a love for fashion has really coerced me to look into a career that fused the two things I love. So, when I found out something like Fashion Law existed, it became my ultimate goal. Thus, my college experience has been full of involvement in fashion and law as I was Fashion Show Event Director for Asian Kaleidoscope Month and heavily involved with law organizations on campus.
This summer I will be writing the LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS section and since Gainesville is such a small town, I am eager to get out there and find what the Fashionistos in this college town have to offer. I am always so surprised when I see a Fashionisto in Gainesville because it is so rare here so I am definitely excited to take this challenge and find Fashionistos in Gainesville. Look out Fashionistos I’m coming for you!
