STYLE GURU BIO: Kera Bussey-Sims

Hello everyone! My name is Kera Bussey-Sims and this summer will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista!. This fall, I will be a sophomore at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Though I am still slightly undecided, I believe I would like to major in either Journalism or English, and I know I will be minoring in Mandarin Chinese (crazy, right?!). Going into my freshman year, I thought I wanted to double major in Neuroscience and Psychology. I don’t know what I was thinking because two days into general chemistry and my head was spinning. After that traumatic 24 hours, I realized that I really need to pursue a career in an area that I am truly interested in which brought me to writing.

Like many other girls, I have always been obsessed with fashion and keeping up with the latest trends. I knew at a young age that a career in the fashion industry would be absolutely perfect for me, but I was discouraged by the unreliability of the path that might not always turn out as planned. I really like stability, predictability, and consistency. I know that I am venturing into an industry that does not have any of those qualities, but that’s kind of what I love most about it. After that second day of chemistry, I realized that to be really be happy and successful I must pursue something I love; fashion.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out who I am and what my style is. Ultimately, I’ve concluded that my style would be categorized as comfy chic. I love trying out new trends and playing with different textures and patterns, but at the end of the day comfort is key for me. Especially as a freshman in college, I began to hone my skill of rolling out of bed, throwing on a few basics that might be clean, topping it off with a few statement pieces and booking it to class. This outfit is a great example of what I wear just about every day to class. No matter what the weather, I will wear these black leggings. Seriously. I have worn them in winter storms and in 80 degree weather. Every CollegeFashionista needs a pair of these! I also love to throw a patterned scarf over a basic T-shirt. I finish the look off with a few of my favorite accessories, a pair of cute, T-strap sandals and I am good to go!

Anyway, before I go into more detail, I want to say how excited I am to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! Though I have been using the site for years now, I am finally getting my chance to contribute and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with you all. Stay tuned!
