STYLE GURU BIO: Kensey Bowen

I spent almost an hour staring at a blank screen, back-spacing over 85 times (I counted) and trying to rack my brain on an accurate way to describe myself. I figured going on a typical rant about where I’m from, or what school I attend would be boring. One thing I am not is boring. If you were to speak to any of my design professors, they would describe me as an enigma. An enigma is a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling or difficult to understand. I may not be the most mysterious person because I’m sort of an open book, but puzzling and difficult to understand are accurate descriptions. I cannot truly depict myself through words and that is why fashion has become my passion, my outlet for expression.

Fashion is a way of expression. When I was younger, I wore basketball shorts and T-shirts on a daily basis. We all went through that phase, don’t judge. Once puberty hit me, like a truck might I add, I finally found my passion. Clothing made me feel beautiful. It made me feel a sort of happiness unlike any other. Fashion became the outlet in which I expressed myself. If I could sum up my style in three words: classic, chic and edgy.

I used those three words to help me choose this first look. I call this look “Bubbly Blonde Takes on the Fashion World.” This season for spring and summer bold prints and lightweight trench coats are what it’s all about. I found this light pink trench coat at Heart and Sole Boutique while in Boston for Spring Break. It’s made out of a lightweight material that allows you to stay cool on a warmer day, but due to its structure allows a more polished look when paired with nearly anything.

The second trend I executed in this look is the use of mesh. Let’s channel our inner ’90s children really quickly ladies and gents. Mesh has been popping up everywhere! The top in my photos is from ASOS. I love the mesh detailing at the neckline.

I paired it with not only the trench coat, but a pair of snakeskin print shorts from the boutique 310 Rosemont! I love adding an edgy flair to my outfits and I thought, what screams edgy more than snake skin?!

The last key pieces to my outfit are my kate spade bag and my GUESS booties. The bag uses a neutral color-block pattern that can go with any outfit and these booties are go to in my spring/summer wardrobe because the heel dresses up any outfit!

The visual path for this outfit starts with the trench coat, it flows down into the detailing and structure of the top and ends with the snake skin shorts. I picked this outfit because not only is it trendy for the spring/summer season, but it is also an accurate representation of my Style Guru style.

I hope you enjoyed my first post and learning a little bit about me and my style!
