STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsie Ahern

Hello! My name is Kelsie Ahern and I am currently a sophomore at Penn State where I am majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Art History. My dream is to work as a fashion publicist or a social media editor at a publication

I got into fashion in ninth grade. I had a rough transition from middle school to high school and didn’t have many friends. Instead, I had Elle and Teen Vogue to keep me company and occupy my time. I would scour through issues of everything from Vogue to Seventeen and study the trends of the season. However, my personal style is mainly influenced by my hometown.

Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland really shaped my personal style. Living in a odd crossroads between the North and the South has given me style role models who wear clothing that is bright and boho, but also edgy and hipster.

Often I’ll wear basics like jeans and a T-shirt and then add trendy accessories. To attain this mix, I paired a classic boho staple, a lace dress from Free People, with a fringe bag, cute shades and some fun jewels. I also threw on a pair of cat eye shades because I love a good pair of trendy sunnies.

My bracelet is a skull bracelet I received as a gift. I love beaded jewelry or accessories with skulls or evil eyes like this bracelet.  I also added in some of my favorite trend this season: fringe. From fringe bags to fringe jewelry, I just can’t get enough. Finally, I can’t go anywhere without my “K” necklace. Like Carrie Bradshaw’s “Carrie necklace” in Sex in the City, it reminds me of who I am.

I can’t wait to share more of who I am and more of the fashions from Happy Valley with you this semester!
