STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsey Jain

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Kelsey Jain and I attend New York University. Having spent most of my life in New York City, I am constantly exposed to sartorial inspiration, which I look forward to sharing with you all. My previous internships in women’s and men’s fashion, the accessories industry, and contributions to New York Fashion Week have guided my career path thus far, and I am so excited to further my experience as a newly minted Style Guru!

Growing up, I was the quiet girl who hid behind her sister and her friends on the playground. I was unsure about myself, and as a result, I rarely spoke up. As I developed into the woman that I am today, I outgrew my timid tendencies, relying heavily on fashion to do so. Back then and to this day, I see fashion as a way to express myself without having to speak. I am so thankful to have found something that enhances my self-expression, so being able to showcase my fellow New Yorkers’ eclectic street style is a perfect opportunity for me.

My personal style can generally be described as edgy yet feminine, and sometimes unexpected. I enjoy reinterpreting clothing to evoke a downtown sensibility, with a quietly sophisticated, cool, casual vibe. I’m currently coveting bombers, interesting pant styles, and vintage t shirts. My individual style is so important to me because it is where I draw my confidence. I think there is something to be said about dressing for the kind of day that you want to have, and the kind of person that you aspire to be. To accomplish this, I turn to some of my favorite brands: Alice and Olivia, Rag & Bone, The Row, A.L.C., and The Reformation. I also enjoy visiting vintage stores and one of a kind shops like American Two Shot.

This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista, and I could not be more thrilled. I look forward to sharing my fashion and style endeavors with you all, shining the spotlight on the streets of NYC, and being a part of the #GuruGang. So excited for a #RAD semester!
