STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsey Daykin

Hey there, fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Kelsey, and I’m so excited to join the CollegeFashionista family! I’m a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying journalism with an emphasis in strategic communication, as well as digital studies. I’m in Milwaukee for the summer, and I’ll be giving you a look at some of my hometown’s best college street style.

When I’m on campus, I’m involved in MODA Magazine, UW-Madison’s first and only life and style publication. Last semester I got the opportunity to be on the creative team and help produce editorial photo shoots. My favorite parts of producing fashion editorials are creating inspiration boards, pulling clothing and casting models.

My biggest style inspirations are Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. My favorite brands of the moment are Céline, alice + olivia, Chloé, Carven and Dolce&Gabbana.

I had the opportunity to visit Belgium over spring break this year, which opened my eyes to a whole new fashion landscape. I love seeing how different people interpret trends and show off their personal styles all over the world. I got these two Nina Kendosa Paris dresses I’m wearing above when I spent a day in the City of Light. They’re each beautiful on their own, but I love how they look layered. The bow on the back of the baby blue dress layered below makes the garment effortlessly chic and feminine. I also love the intricate lace patterns on the tunic layered on top, and it reminds me of the romantic dresses on the Chloé spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway.

My own twist to this Parisian chic look was adding clear, sparkly jellies. They don’t distract too much from the main focus of the outfit, the dresses, yet they add a little bit of playfulness.

I love experimenting with different styles and pieces, and I’m always inspired by other Fashionistas/os out there. I can’t wait to show all of you my favorite street style looks from Milwaukee!
