STYLE GURU BIO: Kelsey Cadenas

Hello, fellow Fashionista/os! My name is Kelsey Cadenas and I have an addiction to shoes, leather jackets and the timeless piece that is flannel. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Studio Art at the University of South Florida, Tampa campus. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I cannot put into words how excited I am to be a part of this amazing community.

When I was a little girl, I always thought that I was going to be some sort of doctor that was going to revolutionize the field of medicine. As I grew older and started college at the University of South Florida as a biomedical science major, the idea of becoming a doctor became less and less appealing to me. I no longer felt that passion or that desire to help people in a medical sense. I knew that the way I looked at my chemistry book was not the same look I gave to fashion magazines or style guru hauls on YouTube every night instead of studying for my exams. As my second year of university rolled by, I decided to make a drastic change in my life. I decided to changed my major to Studio Art because I wanted more of a hands on experience in the art and fashion world I always knew I longed to be a part of.

To me, style is a universal language that can be spoken in many different ways, depending on the person you’re talking to or currently staring at. Style is a way of giving people insight as to who you are without having to verbalize anything to anyone. The versatility of style is one thing that truly fascinates me about fashion. The fact that you can use one article of clothing, fabric pattern or silhouette to create myriad outfits, each of which look completely different from the next, is absolutely amazing.

I feel like my style can’t be described using one word since it tends to change on a day-to-day basis depending on my current mood. I love to experiment with textures, new fabrics and patterns in order to create an outfit that appeals to me and the type of person I am. I will admit that I am currently obsessed with Chelsea boots and faux fur jacks because they are such easy and timeless pieces that can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion. Throw on a maxi dress with simple accessories like a backpack and a gold collar necklace and you’ll be ready for a day out on the town.

Here’s to a semester full of inspiring fashion choices and style brought to you by yours truly and the USF community!
