My name is Kelli and I am going to be a senior at the gorgeous Indiana University in Bloomington this coming fall, but before that I’ll be spending my summer in London interning for SnapFashion! While abroad, I will be writing the FASHION FROM ABROAD column every Friday that will feature college students from just across the pond!
This summer will be my second term writing for CollegeFashionista as I wrote the LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS column this past spring. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute a European perspective on fashion to CollegeFashionista. American college students have a knack for dressing stylishly on a budget so I’m excited to see how trendy British students are!
As a Journalism major, writing and taking photos for CollegeFashionista is a fun way to practice my skills on a topic that interests me. It also encourages me to continuously pay attention to what is happening in the fashion world. I’ve always enjoyed fashion, design and drawing and dreamed of becoming the editor of a fashion magazine — think Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada – but sometimes it is difficult to keep up on topics that are hobbies and not mandatory for school or work. With CollegeFashionista I not only have a reason to pay attention to fashion, but I get to learn about designers and trends.
As much as I love checking out new trends, I prefer a wardrobe full of staple pieces that I can always turn to and alter each season. For example I’ve had this denim vest from American Eagle Outfitters since high school. One trend that I am a huge fan are asymmetrical hemlines in skirts and dresses. My Target dress is just one of the numerous pieces I have with an asymmetrical hemline. They create depth in a simple outfit and they’re a great way to show off your shoes!
