STYLE GURU BIO: Kayla Torter

Hi, guys! My name is Kayla, and I am a freshman at Marist College. I am originally from northern New Jersey, but I am loving every second of going to school in the Hudson Valley. I decided to attend Marist not only for its outstanding beauty, but to also be a part of their amazing fashion program. I will be majoring in Fashion Design and minoring in Fashion Merchandising.

I am beyond excited to be so involved in the fashion program because I have been dreaming about becoming a fashion designer ever since I was a little girl. Most people dream about being superheroes when they are children, but even then, I knew I would someday be involved in the fashion industry. My grandma recently told me a story from when I was a child that truly proves fashion has always been part of my life. She told me that one day, she came to pick me up for school and of course, I was running late. Eventually, I wandered outside of my room with arms completely covered in bangles, along with different types of accessories. Since then, I have definitely learned that “less is more” when it comes to accessories, but hey, I give my little-self credit for wanting to stand out in elementary school. I mean, who wants to look exactly like everyone else?

As I grew older, I began to help my family and friends shop for themselves. I enjoy doing this because it is extremely rewarding to me when someone finds an article of clothing that they feel great in. For me, clothing has always helped me boost my self-confidence and express myself, so I hope I can help you do the same though my posts! You know what they say, you are what you wear…well, you know what I mean…it’s close enough.

In this look, I am wearing all dark tones. Since there is not much going on with color in this outfit, I chose to emphasize the different textures. I paired my favorite Blank NYC leather jacket with a great knit top, printed pants and metallic booties.

I am beyond thrilled to be apart of the Style Guru team at CollegeFashionista and I cannot wait to share my insight with you guys. I hope you all have a wonderful and stylish semester!
